What Does Treatment Involve?

Botanical Medicine

Plant substances have been used for centuries in the treatment of various medical complaints.  Many

pharmaceutical drugs have originated from plant substances, and it is only natural that ND’s would utilize their healing powers.  Plants are prescribed in various different forms which include teas, tinctures, ointments, essential oils, and supplements.

Homeopathic Medicine

Homeopathy is a form of energetic medicine, based on the law of similars of ‘like cures like.’

Homeopathic remedies are made from dilution of plant, animal or mineral material.  Remedies are then carefully matched to a patient’s symptom picture in order to stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal.  Homeopathic remedies have few side effects, and do not interact with other medications or supplements.

Nutrition & Lifestyle Counseling

Nutrition is the cornerstone of good health and one of the fundamental treatments utilized by

Naturopathic Physicians.  Foods affect the way your body functions, some of them help you to heal, while others can damage your body and contribute to chronic illness.  Your dietary factors will be analyzed and nutritional intake assessed to address deficiencies, allergies and intolerances. Therapeutic foods will be prescribed based on your assessment.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

TCM is a complete medical system that has been around for thousands of years in China that diagnoses and treats illness using acupuncture, acupressure, diet, and herbs.  TCM is centered around the concepts of ‘yin’ (substance), ‘yang’ (energy), blood, and ‘qi’ (vital energy or life force).  If the bodies ‘qi’ or blood is out of balance this can lead to imbalances in the ‘yin’ or ‘yang’ causing symptoms of disease.  The goal of TCM is to restore this balance using acupuncture, herbs and dietary modifications.

Acupuncture is a technique that involves the insertion and manipulation of fine metal needles into

acupuncture points along the energetic pathways (meridians) of the body.  There have been many studies looking at the effects of acupuncture and it has been shown to be effective for managing pain and chronic illness.
